Michael Broome graduated
from Appalachian State University, where he designed his major on
the subject of leadership. He made a "D" in the only
public speaking course he ever took! Upon graduation he started his
own marketing business and in 1979 he began a speaking profession,
which has enabled him to address over 3000 audiences throughout
North America and the world. His clientele rank among the Fortune
500 and the associations to which they belong.
He and his wife, Karen, have two daughters and a son, Merica, Olivia
and Caleb. Their home is nestled in the middle of their 1000-acre
farm where Michael grows hay and raises cattle. He says fanning is
the most satisfying way that he knows to lose money. His primary
hobby is building habitats and planting food plots for deer, quail,
ducks and the species with whom his wife Karen says he has the most
in common, the wild turkey.
Michael is the founder and president of the Broyhill Leadership
Conferences. Over 17,000 teens from throughout North America have
attended these camps where they are taught how to set goals, develop
their self-esteem and overcome negative peer pressures. This is
truly a life changing experience for many who attend. Michael quips
that spending much of his summer teaching values to teenagers has
convinced him that the Catholics are right -- there
is a purgatory!
Michael is an avid reader and has serious concerns about the erosion
of traditional values. He speaks for a living because he has a
sincere passion to inspire people to maximize their potentials,
serve others, achieve a life balance and enhance their sense of
gratitude. Humor is one tool he uses to achieve this perspective.
When asked if it is necessary to use humor in a speech, Michael
said, "It is if I want to get paid."
Michael says his presentations are like baths, the effect may not
last forever but everybody needs one! His favorite quotes are by:
Benjamin Franklin who said, "most people die at the age of
twenty-five but they are not buried until they are sixty-five"
and by Teddy Roosevelt who said, "Life is a joy for those with
the heart to demand it."

A MESSAGE AMERICA NEEDS MORE TODAY THAN EVER BEFORE!
Any
thoughtful American is aware that our country and many corporations
face serious problems. Even in the midst of our present economic
boom, downsizing is common, competition is increasing, and many feel
overwhelmed. We often observe and experience a lack of balance, both
in personal and professional lives.
Corporate and Association meeting planners hope to bring a message
to their groups that will strengthen their people to meet today's
challenges. Meeting planners long for someone to speak up strongly
and persuasively for the qualities that made America great: hard
work, accountability, teamwork, and service to others. The challenge
is to find speakers who are able to communicate these principles in
an entertaining and insightful manner.
Michael Broome offers an antidote to this dilemma. As the topics of
his talks suggest, Broome is no Pollyanna. But instead of dwelling
obsessively on problems, he goes beyond them to offer a realistic
counter-vision blending hope and confidence...loaded with humor. He
teaches his audience to have faith not only in our system, but also
in their ability to make that system work for them. The central
conviction behind all Broome's presentations is that success is not
to be had by selfishly helping oneself, but by teaming with and by
serving others. If Broome's talks begin with that rare commodity --
laughter, they end even more unconventionally in grateful applause
and real inspiration.
