In 1987, Mike earned this designation from the National Speakers Association. It demonstrates commitment to the speaking profession through proven speaking experience.
CPAE: Council of Peers Award of Excellence
In 1992, Mike was named to the CPAE Speaker Hall of Fame. Five speakers are named annually to honor those National Speakers Association members who have reached the highest levels of the speaking profession.
Past President National Speakers Association
From 1994-95, Mike served as the 21st president of the prestigious National Speakers Association, which at that time had more than 3,500 members. He also served two terms on the board of directors before his term as president.
Business Entrepreneur
At age 15, Mike started his own garbage-hauling business. He earned his degree in business administration and was president of a retail and manufacturing company before beginning his professional speaking business in 1982. He and his wife also own Thinking Publications, a publishing company specializing in books, software, and other resources for speech-language pathologists.
Outstanding University Alumnus
In 1995, Mike was named an outstanding university alumnus for Bemidji State University, at which he did his baccalaureate, despite life-long dyslexia.
Cancer Survivor
When Mike was in his mid-30s, he was told he had six months to live. When he tells his audience he's glad to be with them, he means it!
