Motivator:
He speaks to over one hundred groups a year, which includes business and
professional people, educators, students and community groups. He has
spoken before such organizations as American Express, AT&T, Arco Oil,
the Chicago Buffs, General Dynamics, The International Association of
School Business Officials, Mutual of New York, The National Association of
Fraternity Advisors, Norwest Bank, Suimitomo Corporation, Sun Life of
Canada, Union Carbide, U.S. Steel and the United States Post Office. He is
the only speaker in the seventy-three year history of the seven thousand
member Million Dollar Round Table to speak twice in four years on their
main platform.
Media: He has been a guest on literally thousands of radio and television
shows
Personality: Throughout the country. He has appeared on such national
shows as Oprah, Today and Tom Snyder. In addition, he wrote humorous
commentaries for NBC Television and hosted his own talk show, "Powers
Up." Currently, Powers is writing and performing one-minute spots on
how to be an effective public speaker for WYCC-T.V. in Chicago. He is also
writing and hosting six motivational television shows for PBS Television.
Business Person: He produced his own musical, "Do Black Patent
Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?" for four years, raising capital of
1.8 million dollars. He is also the president and co-founder of the Powers
of Motivation Institute.
Author: He has written four books (The Last Catholic in America, Do Black
Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? The Unoriginal Sinner & the
Ice Cream God,
and The Junk Drawer, Corner Store, Front Porch Blues). His books have sold
over a million copies. His writings have also appeared in numerous
magazines among them Readers Digest, Chicago Magazine and the Chicago
Tribune Magazine.
Playwright: He is the author of the Broadway musical comedy, "Do
Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?" which is presently
playing in over a dozen cities throughout the United States. In addition,
he wrote and performed his own one-man show, "Scissors, Paper,
Rock." Before it even appeared on stage, he adapted it as a
television special, "Going Home." Powers has received two
regional Emmy awards for his work in television.
Educator: John taught for many years on the elementary, junior high and
university levels. He has also worked in public television. John continues
to teach by speaking to thousands of teachers every year. He holds a Ph.D.
degree from Northwestern University in the field of Communications.
